Hello all! Long story short: yesterday I had the unfun experience in a discord server (an online community) of which I’ve been a part for many many years of being told I am “a drama llama” for having (valid) safety concerns due to the international climate towards Jews and Israel at the moment. Needless to say I am no longer in that discord server.
Unfortunately, that discord was basically my entire social circle of fellow gamers and they were really the only people in my life who I had to play games with me. At a time when I’m already quite lonely, seeing as I’ve lost a lot of friends the past year, this has been a really devastating blow.
However, I’m going to try to make the best of it. This post is largely to gauge interest in an online gaming community of those who are pro-Judaism. I don’t necessarily envision conversation constantly centering Judaism, just that rather we can all play various games together and at the end of the day know that no one is going to turn around and say something out of the blue antisemitic.
I would really love to build a safe space for anyone and everyone who’s Jewish or supports Jews, perhaps especially gamers, where people can go and not feel constantly on edge or afraid of people’s secret opinions. Is anyone even interested? I just think it would be nice to feel less alone and maybe even get to play some games with people too. Whether it’s Scrabble or Mario Kart or Fortnite.
