Is traveling part of the Jewish spirit?

I am an American volunteering at a hostel in Latin America. I am very often surprised at the amount of Jewish tourists that I meet here – not just from the US or Israel, but also Europe. Certainly more than the 1% I would expect (maybe 3-5%?)

Do you think exploring the world is something that resides in the heart of many Jews specifically?
