Is Judaism a race?

To start with; I am A-religious and this is merely out of curiosity and not intended to offend anyone. I am trying to post the question as neutrally as possible but in case of any offence I apologise in advance. Is Judaism a race? From my visit to Israel there are multiple races who are all Jewish and a lot of them are not semites e-g Ashkenazi or African, then we is there a term “antisemitism” to describe the hatred of Jewish people. Is there historical context I am missing here? The second question is about the stories; Do Jewish texts pose the stories to be taken literally or are they more to teach a lesson? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
