Is “Diasporic Judaism” becoming an actual thing?

Hi! Recently attended a Jewish Writer’s conference on Zoom where one of the panelists mentioned that one of her family friend’s son had recently gotten married and proclaimed that he would raise his family within “Diasporic Judaism.” At the wedding, he got rid of the tradition of smashing the glass because of the ritual’s ties to Jerusalem.

I occasionally encounter stories like this but know that this goes counter to most pew polling about Jewish American affiliation with Israel/Israelis. I was wondering what you guys thought? Is “Diasporic Judaism” actually becoming a wide spread thing or is it still very much a thing of the fringes? Is “Diasporic Judaism” likely to become a denominational movement?
