My family emigrated from Germany before the 20th century from Ulm. They turned their back on Judaism from what I understand is due to prevailing social and global sentiments. My great grandmother refused to admit that she was Jewish. My father married a gentile, and has no faith because our family smothered it. I’ve grown quite disillusioned with the fact that I carry the last name of a man I don’t know (my grandfather) and have been severed by my ancestors spiritually. So I’m not sure what the real direction is here?
