I have a t-shirt that came out after the Pittsburgh massacre that has like a 7-inch Magen David (it’s worked into the Pittsburgh Steelers star logo) and slogan “Stronger than Hate.” When someone who appears to be another Ashkenazi Jew has complimented me on it, they do it in an almost conspiratorial way and I simple say thanks in a friendly way back.
There have been two times when someone who appeared to be a gentile has complimented me on it and I’ve been tongue-tied. One guy appeared to be ex-military and followed his “Like your shirt” with a low “yeah…” I’m really not sure why this confuses me, but am I supposed to add a “Thanks for your support” to my normal “thanks”?
