getting in touch with my roots, I’m not sure where to start

please forgive any naivety as during my experiences with my Jewish culture and religion I was very young.

I’m not really sure where to begin, but as I’ve gotten older I have become more curious about my Jewish heritage. As a child I remember we would celebrate Hanukkah, maybe Passover? I can’t quite remember, do traditional funeral stuff like covering mirrors, eat cultural food and my mom even had a Mezuzah that I can almost vividly remember since I saw it everyday walking into the house (she passed almost 10 years ago, unfortunately I was too young to think to claim that)

Anyway, I do also know that we’re Ashkenazi. Since my mom’s a Jew, I’m a Jew and I believe both of her parents were 100% but my dad is Irish and German and grew up Catholic :,). Since we moved away from all of my Jewish family in SoCal when I was 8, we kinda just stopped being as serious about the Jewish holidays I guess and seemingly focused on the Catholic ways of things, which doesn’t ring true to me. clearly. unfortunately when I did express a want to go to church, my mom brought us to a Mormon church for reasons much too long to get into right now.

I just don’t know where I should start! can/should I check out a local synagogue? are there any books you may recommend? are there typically local Jewish communities? what are some daily spiritual practices you partake in? I personally have met very very few in my area. idk I feel kinda silly asking “where do I start” bc just do it ?? but I feel like I need a little guidance right now
