One of the key lessons I have learned from the lack of conver*sion of Judaism is due to historical hatred of the Jews. Jews have their own history of persecution and many of the holidays are related to this (Hanukah, Passover, etc). Thus, a big part of Judaism is remembering/reflecting on the history, which makes sense to me. My question now is digging deeper. Ofc antisemitism has been around since the beginning of time but why? Ofc It didn’t start with world world II, like many people think. In fact I don’t even think it started with the whole blood liable thing. So when did it start and WHY? Were Jews always unproportionally successful at what they did and others grew envy? And if so how were they always successful regardless of setbacks? This applies to modern day too, Israel is flourishing with start ups and innovations while undergoing constant terrorism and threats! How amazing is this!! If the answer is about the success of Jews I question how the Jews are the only minority to achieve this.
Side note: I just had the realization that A verse often referenced in discussions about the persecution of Jews is Deuteronomy 28:37, which is part of the chapter detailing the blessings and curses for Israel based on their obedience or disobedience to God.
It says:
“You will become an object of horror, scorn, and ridicule among all the nations where the Lord will drive you.”
This verse is part of a broader passage (Deuteronomy 28) where Moses warns the Israelites about the consequences of turning away from God. It includes descriptions of exile, suffering, and persecution.
Another relevant verse is Zechariah 12:2-3, which speaks of future hardships and the role of Jerusalem:
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about… And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people…”
This passage is often interpreted as describing conflicts and persecution involving the Jewish people and their central place in God’s plan. So the Jews were punished and antisemitism developed this way? A verse in exodus does talk about how sin passes down from generation to generation. Ofc I believe that the persecution of Jews is absolutely horrid and now I question why God may have decided to do this. Was antisemitism inevitable??
This post is heavy with questions so ofc as always feel free to reply to what you know. I love reading the messages and piecing all the pieces of the puzzle together! Thanks everyone! ✡️
