Clergy Issues

Long story short my niece was not raised Jewish by my sister but recently began reconnecting with her Jewish roots and decided she wanted to have her Bat Mitzvah as an adult- yay!

To pursue this she joined a conservative synagogue a few months ago and was assigned a rabbi (one of a few at the synagogue) to help her with her studies. Problem is that the rabbi- at least in my interpretation- is being super dismissive.

She had a initial meeting with him scheduled for over a month ago which he canceled day of because it overlapped a personal appointment. She then tried to reschedule and had her email and follow-up ignored for several weeks.

She sent another email to schedule that has been ignored for 2 weeks now. She’s tried to set something up in-person when she sees him at Shabbat services but he keeps telling her to send an email which are never responded to.

She’s starting to get discouraged and think the rabbi “doesn’t like her”. Any advice? I’ve never experienced something like this and obviously it needs to be handled with a level of nuance so I wanted to hear what others think before I give her advice.

This is the junior rabbi so maybe go to the senior rabbi? Executive director? Membership director?

TIA
