Are we meant to enjoy Shabbat and rest or is it rather a duty to Hashem

If Shabbat symbolic G-d resting, why does keeping it usually make life more difficult. E.g. not being able to use elevators (shabbat mode excluded, but even that makes life more complicated), not being able to have luxuries like warm food (without use of loopholes) or just doing things we enjoy? Excuse me ignorance for I am Jewish but raised in a not much religious household.
