Anyone ever visit Slovenia?

I’m planning a summer trip with my family. We’re thinking of the Trieste, Italy – Slovenia area. We love outdoor activities, and Slovenia is supposed to be really beautiful. Anyone ever visit that area? What was your experience. Extra points if you keep kosher and can fill us in on that, as well.
