A question from a non-Jew

I live in a very Jewish community. About 3 times in the last couple years I’ve had Hasidic Jews (hopefully I’m not mistaking sect) approach me and start with something along the lines of “excuse me are you Jewish” or start by speaking Yiddish. When I tell them I’m not Jewish they apologize and walk away. Once it was an adult and twice boys that were maybe 10-12. Just curious what they could be approaching me for? Or is it just coincidence?

Happy Sukkot y’all
