I met a couple of Jewish guys on a trip once, and I asked about alcohol in Judaism (I apologised and apologise for my ignorance.) One of them said, “You have to drink to be Jewish”, because during the Sabbath one has to drink wine.
I’m assuming it is not true that there is a rule that all Jewish people have to drink, but how much truth is there to it? At what age do you start drinking at the Sabbath? How important is it that you drink, and is it a problem if you don’t? My two travel companions were Israeli and from pretty religious families as I understand it.
