Hi! I just discovered a death certificate for someone married to my great-grandfather listed as “Sprinca Toba” and it says she died in Auschwitz. The only problem is all of my grandfather’s documents list his mother’s name as Margit – or Margita/Margethe, etc.
I know my great-grandfather only had one wife before WWII so I’m a little confused. Is there any connection between these names in Yiddish? Or would it be customary to have a Yiddish name and another one used for the general public? Any help would be appreciated – thanks in advance!
