Yamika is spelled Yarmulke?

I’m a 17 year old modern Orthodox Jew who has been going to yeshiva since nursery and I have never before seen the word yarmulke. I was just reading an article about an Orthodox Jew who was on the show Big Brother (very cool by the way and here’s a link if you want to read it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/jewishweek.timesofisrael.com/andrew-gordon-the-orthodox-big-brother/amp/) and saw the word yarmulke. I texted a friend commenting on how I’ve hear kippa and yamika but never before yarmulke and he told me that yarmulke is actually pronounced yamika! I had no idea. Why is it spelled this way?
