Why were the Rabbis so sex-crazed?

I was reading Kiddushin 80-81 about seclusion and I came upon a series of stories that present tannaim as being extremely…horny? They are hiring prostitutes, trying to seduce women, and all sorts of things (some but not all of which were egged on by the Satan). What are we to make of this? Are we supposed to believe that these sages were really like this, and if so…what?
