Why does the JPS English version translate n’hoshet as bronze (mixed alloy) and not copper?

נְחֹ֔שֶׁת

I can’t seem to put in a Hebrew word in a middle of an English sentence. I was trying to read this week’s parasha in Hebrew, Pekudei, and recognized the word for coppor as being similar to the word for snake, n’hash (as in Numbers 21:9 the “bronze serpent that Moshe Rabainu raised up).

I can’t understand why “bronze” would be allowed in the English Chumash since it is a mixture of copper and tin, (Shatnaaz?) obviously not for the building of the Mishkan.

I guess this is why it’s good to be able to migrate to the Hebrew.

Anyone care to comment? TIA.
