I’m aware I could google this, but I would love to hear everyone’s individual answers and reasons.
My mother is Jewish, but I grew up with my catholic father and didn’t celebrate the holidays much. Now I’m living with my girlfriends family who is Jewish and always fasts on Yom Kippur. I skipped fasting the past 2 years, but would like to do it with them this year.
From the way they described it, they are observing the sins they’ve done and spend the day for introspection to reflect on just about everything and ask for forgiveness and not eating is supposed to be a sacrifice.
I wonder if some have their own reasons for fasting?
