Why do so many synagogues have the same name?

Such as Beth Israel, for example.

How does a synagogue decide on a name, is there some kind of process? And I don’t see many original names for synagogues, with the majority of them beginning with “Beth”. Why is that?

Is coming up with a unique name for a shul not so kosher?
