Why did G-d punish the Jews in the first century with the Diaspora?

I’ve been thinking about this recently, and I don’t know why it happened. I try to look for articles concerning this but no luck. The Jews at the time didn’t commit idolatry and were faithful. Usually, G-d punished the Israelites for breaking the Torah and turning away from the Lord. Why did it happen?
