I run a community day school in a small Northeastern city (not NYC, Toronto, Miami, or Cleveland) and we are searching everywhere for Judaic and Hebrew teachers. There is a huge national shortage. Even the Israeli Agency is staring there is a shortage of overseas teachers looking for the experience. I realize that the entire field, even secular, is facing teacher shortages. I would love advice on how we can better recruit and attract more people to the field and to our school.
I know that the top answers will be pay, respect, etc…. Our school is genuinely a nice place to work with very small class sizes, wonderful teaching spaces, progressive/student driven curriculum, decent scheduling, lots of cookies (lol – but there is always a ton of nosh), etc….
