What would be the most respectful word to use in referring to "the creator" in Academic writing?

Aloha!

I’m a doctoral student in political theory. Part of my dissertation involves political theology. I’ll be brief; in a foot note I need to make reference to the story of Adam and Eve, and I want to acknowledge that this isn’t a story that is Christian in origin. It’s from the Torah, and so I want to refer to it as a Judeo-Christian narrative that can be found in the Old Testament and the Torah.

Here is my question. The reason that I put “the creator” in quotation marks is because I am not sure what is the most respectful term to use. I know that some really resist writing the name because, if I understand it correctly (and if I’m wrong I’d be interested in learning more), it’s really disrespectful to discard of something with his name on it, or erase his name. The way around it is to write G-d. But I am not sure if that is the best route… if I am overthinking it and shouldn’t omit the O. Or, alternatively, it would be best to say Yahweh or YHWH.

Or, as I write this, if the proper way to refer to him in line with Jewish beliefs would be Hashem or Elohim.

I guess, in short, I just want to be respectful and do the right thing.
