What makes a "good" kugel?

I have never had a noodle kugel I would consider “good”. “Filling” or “sweet” sure. “Oily” and “inedible” once. I am starting to suspect I just don’t like noodle kugel (love me some rice kugel though). What makes a kugel good in your opinion? Not looking for your secret family recipe or anything, just the boxes a kugel needs to tick to make it worth the space in your stomach.

Also, cornflakes or no cornflakes?
