What does the Torah say about animals being kept for slaughter/food?

I’m Jewish but not religious and I’ve always wondered what the Torah says about how we keep our animals before they are slaughtered for food. We take such precautions to keep kosher but why don’t we care if a cow or chicken has been given a decent life before it’s sacrifice.

I’m also wondering if there are any laws about what animals are fed. Do we strive for grass fed cows and free ranging, corn crazing hens or do we turn a blind eye to the dark side of the farming industry?

Is a chicken pumped full of antibiotics considered kosher?
