What does spraying ash on graves represent?

is there a practice/ritual in judaism that revolves about spreading ash on one’s body or grave?

I heard of a similar practice where ash is considered a sign of repentance and that it presents itself through multiple cultures.

Can someone kindly correct this information or refer me to where one might be able to have a good read about the matter.
