What does forgiveness look like in Judaism?

Hello all,

I’m conducting a research project in which I will be exploring several virtues across different faiths to see where they’re similar and where they are different. I am a student of philosophy, and I’m currently interested in the philosophy of religion. What I would like to know is how forgiveness is explored in the Tanakh, and as a bonus, if someone could point me towards some interpretations of forgiveness from prominent Jewish philosophers, that would be appreciated as well.

I am aware of the different schools of thought within Judaism, but I’m looking for a general consensus, not a specific one. I will decide on the response via aggregate approval. In other words, the three most upvoted comments will be what I use as forgiveness as it is interpreted in Judaism.

Thank you for your time!
