What are the implications for identity when one has distant Jewish relations?

If one has distant Jewish heritage, wherein a great-grandparent was 100% Jewish in their faith and heritage but nobody following them practiced the faith, is there any claim to Jewish identity or heritage?

Edit: This person has a Jewish Paternal Great-Grandmother, who gave birth to the mother of their father.
