Weird question, but how important is Hanukkah?

So I’m a non Jew (as is likely obvious), and I saw a Jewish person say on Tik Tok that that people making Hanukkah seem important is because of it’s proximity to Christmas and to put on a façade of inclusivity/that it’s ironic since Hanukkah is partiallyi about celebrating not assimilating. I think that sounds very interesting, but I don’t know how true that is so I want to ask here how true it seems. Obviously there are different opinions, but I’m curious what people think about it.
