Wanting to convert but no local community or Rabbi?

I live in the UK so nothing is ever a million miles away, but in terms of practicality I can’t really be an active member of a community involving a 90-mile round trip, so I’m not really sure what to do.

I’d sent the Rabbi at said location a reasonably detailed and searching e-mail about conversion and he replied that all enquiries regarding conversion need to be directed at the Beth Din, so I’m not sure if that means I’m missing a point and I should bypass any local Rabbi for now and let the Beth Din decide whom I contact, or if that Rabbi just isn’t receptive to the idea, I’m at a bit of a loss.

Should I be contacting Rabbis?
