Visiting a synagogue for the first time

Hello.

I was planning on visiting the local synagogue when I will have some time. I have always been curious and genuinely interested in seeing one since I first learned about it. I can talk from experience, this is not always a good thing and most people who visit Churches do not respect the etiquette, so I know how it can be frustrating or distracting. Is there something I should know about before visiting? What are the non-allowed things besides talking loudly and taking pictures disrespectfully?
