I heard a rumor that it’s not uncommon for some people to use “uppers” – or amphetamine-based psychostimulant drugs – within various orthodox communities.
Obviously, this would not be something that would not be “advertised” about themselves because it would make them look bad. I’m pretty sure drug use is generally frowned upon in orthodox Judaism but I don’t know if it’s outright forbidden?
If people in some of these communities were to use any type of drugs, “uppers” would actually make the most sense to me. I could see it being something that would allow them to keep up with the enormous demands of their lifestyle at times when they’re feeling burnt out or exhausted.
I am just wondering if there is any truth to this rumor?
