Traditional observance in rural areas?

If you are traditionally observant – particularly in regards to kashrut and Shabbat – and you live in a rural area, how would you make it work?

This is assuming that there’s no kosher restaurants/stores with fresh kosher meat and no way to walk to shul without it taking 2 hours both ways.

And inb4 “it’s impossible”, surely there are observant Jews who live in places that don’t have a strong Jewish network. What would they do?
