I posted this to r/tipofmytongue and just realized I might get an answer there.
I heard this on the Dr. Laura show once.
She explained this concept from Judaism about how it’s considered unethical to criticize a person after they have atoned for their transgressions.
I think the idea is about allowing people to move on and improve themselves.
