To Iraqi Jews..

Do you still do Iraqi traditions in your family? Eat Iraqi dishes etc? Listen to Iraqi music? Or do anything that resembles Iraqi?

I’m an Iraqi Arab myself and second-gen in Scandinavia. As my parents are from Iraq, we still have the Iraqi “spirit” with us. But how is it with the Iraqi Jews who fled to Israel generations ago?

My family was kicked out of Iraq too for other reasons, meaning I’ve never been to the country itself, thus I can relate a little. But what happened in the 1900s to the Jews was still much worse than my family’s situation.

I was also named after my grandma, who was named after her Jewish midwife before she was persecuted. We hold deep respect for the Iraqi Jews. I hope that we can all visit our native country one day freely again and co-exist in peace 😊
