Tiny tehillim to carry around?

I was gifted a teeny tiny tehillim, smaller than the palm of my hand.

It was given to me by someone at temple who told me to keep it in my purse and carry it for protection.

I’m not yet Jewish, but something about carrying it around and it being for “protection” hit my ear a little funny and I don’t know why.

I’d like a second opinion. It’s a pretty little book and the gesture was so sweet and kind, I just don’t think it’s meant to be taken everywhere I go. Am I wrong?
