This is just a question out of curiosity since I don’t know much about the do’s and Don’ts about Judaism

So I have a friend from England come and visit me for the week. I’m a Jew he is not. We were walking down a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, a rabbi stopped and asked if we’ve put on tfillin today. I said I have but my friend since he’s not a Jew he said no and we continued walking (I did not think to ask at the moment). He is very curious about the religion and wants to learn more and I’m curious whether he is forbidden or not to put on the tfillin. Just curious
