Pardon my likely incoming ignorance, but I’m interested in Judaism, have begun attending Shabbat services (virtually) at a temple nearby and am hoping to learn more.
One question I have is related to the names Jews use for G-d. Why not write out the full name? I understand it is related to showing respect, but what is the basis for the practice? I also notice people use Adonai vs some of the other names of G-d (I am not sure if it is okay to list them here? but hopefully people know what I’m referring to? )
Why write out and use Adonai but not some of the other names and what basis (whether in Torah or Talmud) informs that practice?
