The hypothesis of polytheistic Israelites and its refutation/reconciliation

Hello. I am not Jewish but I am Muslim so I’m frequently confronted with allegations that the original Israelites were polytheistic somehow. With claims of YHWH being a single God among gods and Judaism slowly evolving into a monotheistic faith over time. As you can imagine there aren’t many experts on Jewish history amongst my community so I decided to ask here. Have you come across this allegation? If so what is your response to it? Much of my current knowledge on this theory comes from these articles so I’d appreciate it as a framing device.
