The first year without Passover

This is the first year our extended family has not celebrated Passover. The enthusiasm wasn’t there; there was no way we could celebrate and also avoid arguments over Palestine, and in the words of my grand-uncle, « I’m not willing to lose family for one evening ». Travel logistics were also a factor, but the conflict above was the tipping point, and no one wanted to be the primary organiser this year – even if I wanted to, I couldn’t due to space.

Most of us are secular Jews, but I look forward to the holiday every year, and I worry I won’t see some of my older relatives come next year.

I don’t really have any Jewish friends in my city to talk this over, so I’m exorcising my selfish sadness here.
