Thank you for inclusiveness in 1960s Crown Heights, Brooklyn!

Hi. I’m Black, female and not Jewish but I grew up in Crown Heights in Brooklyn in the 1960s and 70s. I ate Jewish foods and I had Jewish friends. I feel a little connected to the culture — through literature and food and friendship. I joined this group to try reconnect with my Brooklyn upbringing and a part of my past. I identify, mostly, through food and I eat with friends from all over the world. I sometimes try to recreate some of the foods I enjoyed, but since moving to England (to marry an Englishman) it’s been difficult. After a decade of living here I now make a mean dill pickle (from seeds smuggled from the US…) Does anyone want to engage with me about food? Share recipes and the like?

I but really, I just want to say ‘thank you’, as a people, for contributing to my upbringing in the 60s and 70s and for making me feel part of a “blended” community. Peace. Lisa
