Should I go on birthright? I love Israel but I’ve already done the crazy tour of Israel thing (went as a teen on a different trip). I want to plan a trip to Israel this December but I want to actually experience the country and not just be drunk the whole time.

Hi everyone.

Here are my impressions of birthright: They want you to have an amazing time and to love Israel, so you party like crazy every night, get shuttled around between different tourist spots, take instagram photos, etc. I also am very informed on the conflict in Israel and am fiercely pro-Israel, but I really don’t need propaganda shoved in my face all day. Plus, when my brother was Bar Mitzvah we went to Israel, and we were part of a tour group so we did all that tourist stuff.

But at the same time, it’s a free trip to Israel. I know that in and of itself is pretty amazing. I just don’t like the idea of spending my winter break on this stressful binge drinking trip (I’m a PhD student). I would rather just get an Airbnb and explore the country myself. I also am a massive introvert so the thought of being surrounded by people 24/7 and expected to be social is kinda shitty.

Thoughts?
