So there is this video game series called Shin Megami Tensei and it can sort of be described like Pokémon but with real world mythology. Basically, you go around and defeat monsters from various folk tales and mythologies and you can recruit them to use in future battles.
The thing is that the final boss in most games is G-d, who is usually portrayed as a genocidal tyrant that you end up having to kill. I do not think that these games are necessarily intended to disparage Judaism or any other religion as these games were made in Japan which is a country not very concerned with religion in any way and they most likely did it this way just to have a powerful final boss. I could be wrong though.
I just wanted to hear everyone’s thoughts about this. I was thinking about trying one of these games out, but I am not so sure now. I am concerned there might be a halakhic issue or that it is just plain disrespectful. But perhaps I am looking at these games wrong and someone who knows more about all of this can enlighten me.
