Sepharadim in Shtisel (spoilers, sort of)

I’ve really enjoyed watching Shtisel.

One thing that surprised me was the attitude some of the characters had toward Sephardic Jews. Shulem disowns his daughter after she marries a Chabadnick, and throws in “and he’s Sephardic” when explaining it to a friend, as if that makes it worse. Then in season 3 Giti throws a fit when her son wants to marry a Sephardic woman.

Is this realistic? Is this common? And if so, why?

(I know these are fictional characters but some people on this sub have commented that other aspects of Shtisel were accurate so I wanted to know if this was accurate as well.)
