So I consider myself a religious Conservative Jew but I’m also childfree. I fully understand the halacha and the commandments to have children, but I’m also a very hardcore childfree woman (26F, sterilized). Are there any other religious childfree Jews out there? How do you deal with the dichotomy between your inability/desire not to have children and the commandment to go forth and prosper?
I’ve long known that I never wanted to bear children and even the prospect of raising them is extremely difficult for me even if myself and a partner were to potentially get a surrogate but I also consider myself relatively religious and observant. Is there anyone else in this situation? How do you deal with it? I’ve been struggling a lot recently.
