Reconciling Deuteronomy 24:16 with the fate of David’s baby

Hi folks,

Hoping you can help me reconcile some theology surrounding Deuteronomy 24:16 and the fate of David’s baby who appears to die due to David’s wrongdoing.

My understanding of the Deuteronomy passage is that God wouldn’t punish an innocent child or parent for the actions of the counterpart. But in 2 Samuel 12:15 that’s what appears to be happening. Is there another perspective I should view these two passages through? Is the Deuteronomy passage specific to the actions of human courts and not God Himself?
