Really Interesting Kosher Question…

Hey all,

I work in the energy industry and a really interesting kosher question came my way. We are considering using renewable natural gas in a certain area with a high Hasidic population. This process is generally done by performing anaerobic digestion (AD) on organic materials (which could really range the gamut, but is often coming from sewage treatment plants, which of course could contain non-kosher material and I would imagine is considered non-kosher itself, yum).

Ideally, only the methane would make it into the actual gas stream, but there is a small possibility that a microscopic amount of contaminants could make it into the stream, at which point this gas could be used for cooking (and heating).

Any thoughts on whether this would cause kashrut problems? I looked online, but it was impossible to find anything this specific related to incomplete combustion and the source material.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
