Rabbi who doesn’t wear a kippah in shul

I was at services at a famous American reform synagogue this morning and the rabbi was not wearing a kippah. While I know reform rabbis who do not wear a kippah outside of religious contexts, I’ve literally never seen a rabbi conduct services without one. It felt jarring to me. Has anyone seen this before? Any explanation?
