I know these names are typically given during the newborn stage, and Jews by choice can choose one for themselves. I do have a few questions about the process that I haven’t been able to find online.
- What if a child’s first name is already of Hebrew origin? Are they still typically given a second Hebrew name? Would there still be a ceremony?
- Is the Hebrew name included on the birth certificate (or any other official document)? If so, do Jews by choice typically change their birth certificate to include this Hebrew name?
- Are there any set rules on what the name can/cannot be?
