Question: how do Jews embrace/ celebrate Hanukkah in different countries?

I grew up in South America and we didn’t do anything but light the candles, and remind the story of the miracle of the lasting oil. Extended Family in 3 different countries basically did the same. Then we moved to the USA and there’s a whole mindset of celebrating the date with groups of friends, fried foods, dreidels, some home decorations, gifts and festive sweaters (probably just to match x-mas funny sweaters). It’s weird to me, some secular Jews I know do something for Hanukkah but not for Pesach/ Kippur/ etc. I imagine it’s just because the commercialization of the end of yr holidays… or is there something else I’m missing? Is it just the USA? How do you celebrate in other countries?
