Hello all, apologies if this is a totally left-field question but wanting to be respectful of religious articles. We are not Jewish and recently moved into a new home and noticed a mezuzah left behind on one of the doorframes. It’s presence doesn’t bother us so I’m inclined to just leave it there, but I was not sure if that would be considered at all disrespectful since we are not Jewish ourselves and therefore would not be using it for it’s intended purpose. From a Jewish perspective, would it be more appropriate to remove and somehow return it a synagogue? Or leave it in place?
Again, I know many faiths have particular practices when it comes to the handling and treatment of religious items so just want to make sure we’re acting respectfully either way. Thank you!
